Madonna in Malawi to adopt daughter
Madonna is planning to adopt a second child from Malawi, officials said Thursday, but questions already have been raised over whether the newly divorced pop star will face obstacles because of her single mom status.
An official from the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare said Madonna, 50 and a mother of three, had filed adoption papers for an unidentified girl through her charity, Raising Malawi, according to People magazine. Us magazine quoted a senior official from the same ministry as saying, "Our official policy is that we do not encourage our children to be sent into broken homes."
The singer was accused of using her celebrity status to circumvent Malawian adoptions laws when she adopted son David -- allegations she denies. That adoption became final in 2008, the same year she and director Ritchie divorced.
INNOCENT PLEA: A man has pleaded not guilty to stalking "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Shawn Johnson.
Robert O'Ryan appeared with a public defender during his arraignment Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Prosecutors charged O'Ryan, 34, with one felony count of stalking and two misdemeanor counts of carrying a loaded gun in a vehicle.
Prosecutors say O'Ryan was arrested Tuesday after he tried to jump a security fence at a studio where the ABC show is produced.
Authorities say he drove from Florida to meet Johnson, a 17-year- old Olympic gymnast. Officials say they found loaded guns, duct tape and love letters in the car.
